Koh Hong Archipelago
The Hong Islands are located within the Than Bok Khorani National Park in Krabi Province and can only be accessed by renting a private boat from Phuket or Krabi or by a join in boat tour. These islands lie to the east of Phang Nga Bay and in between Koh Yao and mainland Krabi, the waters here are much clearer than in Phang Nga Bay. As these islands are protected under a Marine National Park, visitors have to pay a nominal entrance fees to the park rangers here. The group of islands include islands such as Koh Hong, Koh Pakbia & Koh Lao, Koh Lao Riam, Koh Pak Ka and Koh Lading. All islands here are uninhabited to preserve them in their natural beauty. The wing-shaped Koh Hong is the biggest island in the group. The geography of the island includes incredible limestone cliffs, crystal clear water, immaculate white sand beaches, and deep and shallow coral reefs. It is a perfect place for swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, diving, fishing, hiking, rock-climbing, bird-watching and camping. There is a 400 meters long nature trail on this island for those who like hiking. The island is surrounded by towering Limestone Mountains that form perfect backdrops for some amazing pictures. There is a white sandy beach on the east side of the island and a hidden lagoon right in the center of the island. There are 10-30 feet deep coral reefs full of life, vibrant corals and various tropical fish that surround the island of Hoh Hong. North of Koh Hong is Koh Pakbia which is home to a lovely white sand bar that connects the 2 islands in low tide. The mushroom looking rock will easily help you identify Pakbia from a distance. There are no join-in boat tours that operate to Pakbia so if you want to visit this island consider renting a boat from Jabudays. Around these waters you can also find larger fish such as Spanish Mackerel, Jackfish, Rainbow Runners and Barracuda. On Koh Hong you may also find white faced Gibbons as well as large monitor lizards roaming the island. If visiting Krabi or Phuket consider the Hong Archipelago as one of your destinations to visit as these islands are not as crowded as some of the other popular islands such as Phi Phi or Khai Islands. Jabudays offers a number of private boats and yachts available for charter from Krabi as well as Phuket for your convenience.
