Similan Islands
The stunning Similan Islands are located in the Andaman Sea to the west of Khao Lak and the North West of Phuket and can only be accessed via private yacht charter from Phuket or via a join in boat tour from Khao Lak. Similan derived from the Malay term sembilan, means “nine”, as originally this group of islands were composed of 9 islands but in 2014 expanded to add two new islands, Ko Bon and Ko Tachai. These islands are located around 50-60 nautical miles northwest of Phuket. Ranked as “One of the Top 10 dive destinations to visit in the World” by the National Geographic Society affirms its breathtaking beauty. Similan islands have become the new favorite destination for divers and snorkelers. The untouched marine life here is incredible and unparalleled. Similan Islands are surrounded by clear shallow waters, massive rock formations, vast coral reefs and wildlife, making it an impeccable diving spot. The travel time to these islands varies from an hour and a half up to 3 hours depending on the speed of the boat. There are also access restriction to some islands and beaches to protect the wildlife in those islands. The government is doing a great job in both promoting and protecting the Similan Islands.
