James Bond Island
Nowadays, Koh Ta Pu is popularly known as James Bond Island. James Bond Island can be accessed via a charter boat or a join in boat tour from Phuket or Phang Nga province of Thailand. This island is the most famous landmark within the magical Phang Nga Bay National Marine Park. Ko Ta Pu is a limestone rock about 20 meters (66 ft.) tall with a diameter of about 4 meters (13 ft.). Koh Ta Pu reflecting its shape, means Nail or Spike Island in Thai language. James Bond Island was given its alias after the lead character in the Hollywood blockbuster, The Man with the Golden Gun, in which this needle formed limestone rock was featured widely. James Bond Island has become the most famous island within the bay since its feature in this hit 1970’s movie. The bay also appeared in Star Wars: Episode lll – Revenge of the Sith as the backdrop for planet Kashyyyk. The entire area surrounding this island is indeed spectacular. The sumptuous vegetation, turquoise water, secluded caves and hidden lagoons around make it one of Thailand’s top destinations.
