Ratcha Islands
Located around 8 nautical miles south of Phuket, Koh Racha Yai is one of the most famous day trip destinations in the area and can only be accessed if you rent a private boat from Phuket or join in on a boat trip to Coral Island. With its U-shaped bay lined with fine white sand beaches and the crystal clear blue water the island feels like a tropical paradise. Its continuous development in the past years are evident as there are springs of bungalows and resorts available for tourist to stay-in contributing in its growing popularity. Although the island has undergone development in terms of facilities and infrastructures, there are still some parts that are uninhabited that have a number of nice spots excellent for diving and snorkeling. There’s one big resort here called The Ratcha which is very popular with tourists who desire staying on the island. On the bay’s southern part, an uphill viewpoint offers a nice walking path for those who fancy walking and welcome you with a stunning, breath-taking view of the whole island. The best part of the island is its serenity. Most visitors come to escape the noise and distractions of Phuket and relax in this amazing, magical place.
Further south is the uninhabited and wild island of Ratcha Noi, perfect for divers with a few amazing diving spots. Marine life that one can spot here include Manta Rays and Leopard Sharks and if you’re luck one can even spot a Whale Shark. Besides these one can also find tons of Tuna and Barracuda swimming freely here. Due to the hard-coral reef and large granite boulders the marine life here is extremely diverse. The 4 shipwrecks here also make it an extremely attractive destination for divers. There is hardly any join in boat tours to Ratcha Noi however one can enjoy the beauty of this island by a Jabudays charter boat from Phuket. For divers Jabudays also offers specialty dive boats fitted with air compressors as well as water makers for divers convenience. Ratcha Noi is a less frequented island so is also great if you want to give the crowds a miss and enjoy your piece of exclusive tropical magic.
