Phi Phi Islands
Phi Phi Islands is a small archipelago of islands in southern Thailand that can only be accessed by sea if you charter a yacht from Phuket or rent a boat from mainland Krabi. You may also access these islands via the scheduled ferry boat or if you book a join in boat tour from Phuket or Krabi. These islands which are part of Krabi province are situated between Phuket and the west coast of the Strait of Malacca. Phi Phi Islands are one of the most sought-after destinations in Thailand because of the island’s natural beauty. Limestone rock formations, flawless turquoise waters teaming with incredible underwater life, white sand beaches surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and luscious forest makes Phi Phi an absolute tropical paradise.
The main island of Phi Phi Don is roughly around 25 nautical miles from Phuket and is the habited of the 2 main islands. The ferry from Phuket or Krabi will stop on the big island of Phi Phi Don where you will also find many resorts, shops, dive shops, tour agencies, restaurants and bars. Accommodation on the main island of Phi Phi Don is a fairly affordable destination for tourists from around the world. You’ll find parts of this island to be highly developed and comparable to Phuket’s Patong beach although not as big. The 2nd largest island is called Phi Phi Leh is uninhabited and a Marine National Park, this island is also home to the world famous Maya Bay. This island is located in the southern part of the Ko Phi Phi archipelago and is also a highly visited island. A Phi Phi Island boat tour or a visit via a charter boat is usually at the top of the list of tourists visiting Phuket or Krabi as tourists come to this part of Thailand in particular to visit Maya Bay where the Leonardo DiCaprio starring Hollywood blockbuster, “The Beach” was filmed. This contributed immensely to the fame of the Phi Phi Islands. Most people visit Phi Phi Leh during the day as no accommodation is available to stay overnight. Steep limestone hills surround the island providing a distinct frame and picture-perfect background. Most visitors enjoy snorkeling in the surrounding crystal-clear waters, discovering vivid corals and colorful tropical fish.
Koh Yung or Mosquito Island is near Phi Phi Don and also part of the Phi Phi Archipelago. This island is relatively smaller than the first 2 islands but is a true gem that offers great snorkeling spots as well. Ko Mai Phai or Bamboo Island is another island near Phi Phi Don. It’s funny since there’s not a single bamboo growing on this island even though it’s called Bamboo Island. Ko Mai Phai is a popular destination for snorkeling. There have been sightings of lionfish, leopard sharks and hawksbill sea turtles in its surrounding waters. Koh Bida Nok is the southern most of the Phi Phi islands approximately 2 miles away from Phi Phi Leh. It is a renowned diving destination and can compete against any of the world’s best diving spots for its magnificence and diversity of marine life. Ko Bida Noi is the twin island of Ko Bida Nok. It is made up of magnificent limestone cliffs marvelously rising out of the sea. There are no beaches on this island and there is no accommodation to stay on this island as well. The Phi Phi Archipelago is the kind of place that invites you and once you’re there it’s very difficult to leave. All the smaller islands of the archipelago can only be accessed via boat. Jabudays offers all sizes of boats and yachts for charter in Phuket and Krabi. Jabudays also offers handpicked join in boat trips to Phi Phi Islands leaving from Phuket and Krabi.
