Phuket’s Premier Yacht Charter & Marine Events Company
Jabudays was an adventure undertaken by two brothers Varun & Vishal Sood in 2007. Varun initiated the adventure when he bought the Turkish Gulet “Jabuticaba” and sailed her from Turkey to India, then to the Maldives and finally to Phuket in Thailand. Once in Thailand Vishal set-up the business in early 2008 and has now grown it to be one of the leading yacht charter companies in Phuket. He later added a new dimension by adding events to the business and created the premier Marine Events Company in Thailand. Jabudays now specializes in charter yachts as well as creating, managing and organizing events held on yachts, beaches or on exotic islands.
“Jabu” was the nick name of their first yacht “Jabuticaba” and “Jabu” in Swahili meant “Happiness” so the brothers decided to name their new adventure “Jabudays” which essentially is a happy day. And so fittingly Jabudays main goal became to offer its clients a happy and memorable day. A day out on an amazing boat, enjoying spectacular scenery, relishing mouth-watering gourmet food, sipping on some fine wine, listing to some groovy tunes, experiencing incredible sunsets and sharing all this with family, friends and peers…That’s a Jabuday! Add to this some live entertainment, perhaps a rejuvenating massage, maybe some fun with water sports and now we have a recipe for truly memorable Jabuday!
Jabudays & Jabu Events are brands of Siolim Adventures Co., Ltd. which is a Tourism Authority of Thailand registered company with its head office in Phuket and branch office in Bangkok.
An MBA from INSEAD in France, Varun is a private equity guru and is the founding partner of a fund of funds based out of Switzerland. Varun is also the owner and MD for Siolim Hotels which owns the famous Siolim House hotel in Goa. Siolim House is a 350 year old Portuguese mansion, once the Governor of Macau’s residence which was completely dilapidated when it caught Varun’s eye. Varun meticulously spent years restoring this magnificent mansion to its former glory. The UN Wolrd Heritage Awards recognized Varun’s contribution in his restoration effort and Siolim House was one of the few entries for this prestigious award from India. Besides Capvent, Siolim House and Jabudays Varun is now an avid restorer and developer of unique properties around the world.
Vice President at Viacom, India, Vishal was heading Production & Operations for channels like MTV, VH1, Nick & Colours when he decided to give it all up and move to Phuket to set-up Jabudays. He has also worked at BBC and Channel 4, UK as part of his TV carrier. Besides TV, Vishal has been involved with film making as well and has worked with renowned director such as Meera Nair, Deepa Mehta and actors such as Amir Khan and Toby Stevens. Films that Vishal has worked on include Fire, Monsoon Wedding, Earth, Train to Pakistan and Mangal Panday. He has also worked with the famous novelist William Dalrymple on a documentary series for Channel 4, UK. One of Vishal’s short films which he produced was also an entry in the Cannes Film Festival in 2001.
Along with his managerial skills Vishal brought a creative touch to the business by adding the events dimension to yacht charters. From owning 1 yacht in 2008, the company now represents 9 other yachts as well. Instead of running plain Jane yacht charters Jabudays has evolved into a Marine Events Company organizing events such as Weddings, theme based Team Building and Incentive Travel programs hosted on yachts, secluded beaches and exotic islands. Jabudays now offers an experience unique to its brand where clients constantly come back for more.
